The Mill Museum

School Groups

Verla is suitable for visitors of all ages. The guided tour can be modified to respond the group's age and needs.

For younger children we recommend a shortened and simplified version of the tour, which concentrates on stories of the people who worked at the mill. For older pupils and students, more detailed information can be added to the tour. If you wish the guide to focus on a certain theme (machines, technology, history, architecture, world heritage etc.), please mention this to our staff when you book the tour.

The visit can include:

  • a guided tour at the museum

  • Verla forest trail (2km)

  • prehistoric rock paintings (near the parking lot)

  • lunch, snack

  • workshops (e.g. making cardboard)

For bookings and more information, please contact our info desk.

The collections

The core of the Verla Mill Museum collection is located in the mill buildings, with other artefacts on display in exhibitions around the site as opportunities permit. The museum’s buildings, artefacts and photographs are catalogued in the Kantapuu database.

Samples of the wallpaper in Verla’s buildings have been catalogued in the wallpaper database of the National Board of Antiquities’ Department of Monuments and Sites.

In December 2008, the professional cultural history museums of Kymenlaakso started to plan for a joint collections management policy. The Verla Mill Museum’s collections policy was completed in the spring of 2012.
